Who knew a city girl's life could change so much in such a short time? Originally from Phoenix, AZ, I have lived in large and small cities all my life. Portland, Oregon. Eugene, Oregon. Washington, DC. Yet here I am, living the rural dream between two towns whose combined population doesn't even top 3,000... And yet, I'm finding I really like it.
I keep hearing the theme to "Green Acres" in my head--but having all the non-human members of the family with us will be worth it. Expected population of the five-acre farm (once the chicks arrive) will be:
26 chickens
4 horses
3 cats
2 (pregnant) goats
2 humans (neither pregnant at this writing, though I keep telling my husband he should get pregnant and make us a truckload of money by doing so)
AND...
an aging but spry 12 year old foxhound
So who am I? A wife, an ex-wife, a stepmother, a mother-in-law, a sister, a daughter, niece, an aunt, a friend. I work in State government (I'm from the government and I'm here to help...really!) and have so done for nearly 15 years now. I have a couple of degrees that I am proud to have earned (Bachelor's in Psychology and Master's in Counseling with a focus on working with Deaf and Hard of Hearing people). I met my match on Match.com (really!) and married him last May on the edge of the ocean on Maui, Hawaii, surrounded by family and friends. I love movies and plays, road trips and other adventures (hence the move to the country, right?), and music of nearly all types. My family is incredibly important, but I'm the only one of my generation who is not living near Portland, OR. I'm also the only one who's ever lived an entire continent away from family.
I'm also a dyed-in-the-wool horse lover and very pleased to finally have realized my 7-year-old self's dream of having a horse (or two or three or four...) of my own. What a grand adventure this is--and who knew I'd ever feel such kinship with a character played by Eva Gabor??
